The Academic Difference

Kerri Remmel

At UofL Hospital, we believe knowledge comes from questioning the status quo, discovering more about disease and using that knowledge to improve the health of our community. Our physicians are also teachers and researchers at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and are involved in the research and development of new treatments and cures.

Our physicians are well-versed in the latest treatments, technologies and innovations to treat patients and educate doctors for the future.  In fact, many patients are transferred to UofL Hospital when their needs are too complex for other healthcare facilities. This means patients receive the most advanced and appropriate treatment even for complex or rare conditions.

Because we are an academic medical center, we bring teams of physicians, nurses, residents, researchers, teachers, technologists and other experts together all in one setting to advance health care. Although resident physicians may supplement care, an attending physician will oversee each step of your care.

When appropriate, we offer the opportunity to participate in clinical trials.  Clinical trials are part of clinical research and at the heart of all medical advances. Clinical trials look at new ways to prevent, detect, or treat disease. Participants work with physicians to find new ways to improve treatments and the quality of life for people with disease.
