New class at UofL Hospital prepares grandparents for baby’s arrival

University of Louisville Hospital is launching a new class to educate soon-to-be grandparents on the latest infant care recommendations in preparation for the arrival of a new baby in the family.

The initial free class will be Tuesday, June 19, from 6-8 p.m. in the Glass Room located in the basement of the hospital next to the cafeteria. Light refreshments will be provided.

“Few things are more joyful than helping your child welcome new life into the world, but several infant care recommendations have changed since older adults raised their own children,” said Rachel Mortensen, R.N., prenatal class coordinator at UofL Hospital’s Center for Women & Infants.

Topics to be covered include safe sleep practices for infants, car seat recommendations, how to prepare and store formula and breast milk, and a grandparent’s role as a support person.

Expecting parents and grandparents are encouraged to attend the class together.

Please register by calling 502-562-3325 or email Mortensen at In the message, please include “grandparent class,” your name and how many people will attend.

The Center for Women & Infants also offers “Beautiful Beginnings” free pregnancy and child care classes for expectant parents. A full schedule and registration information can be found at UofL Hospital’s website.
