UofL Hospital and UofL James Graham Brown Cancer Rehabilitation Services provides physical, occupational, & speech therapy in inpatient and outpatient settings.
Our goal is to provide optimal recovery, improvement or full return of functional abilities, and the highest quality of life possible. Our therapy team is an essential component of the area’s only hospital providing care for patients who need the services of a Level One Trauma Center, adult Burn Unit, and Bone Marrow Transplant program. The hospital is also accredited as a Comprehensive Stroke Center with rehab services as part of the stroke multidisciplinary team.
Rehabilitation Services is dedicated to quick access for all patients from the critically ill in the hospital to the onset of an outpatient injury or illness. Treatment is initiated as early as possible to enhance and speed the recovery process. Treatment programs are individualized to include specific therapy needs and the overall health and well-being of the person.
The care team may include physical therapists, occupational therapists, and/or speech language pathologists (speech therapists) who will follow through during the hospital stay or the outpatient visits. In either setting, the therapists will continually evaluate and adjust the treatment program as needed.
Upon completion of the inpatient stay, rehab services will help determine the best and safest next steps available to continue treatment and functional recovery. Rehab services will provide a final home program that may include exercises, education, and/or safety considerations at discharge.
As the primary teaching hospital for the University of Louisville, rehab services partners to conduct research to develop new treatments and services to continually improve on patient care in the rehab department, at the hospital, and in the community.
